Build a Stone Bath Mat from LifeHacker.com
If you’re looking for an easy project to add a little class to your bathroom while being friendly on your wallet, check out this simple DIY stone bath mat.
Susan Wasinger from Natural Home likens using this bathmat to taking a walk on a stony beach; if that sounds appealing, it’s easy to put together:
1. Make a simple frame of pine “L” trim, about 18 inches by 26 inches. Mitre the corners and nail and glue together. You can finish the wood with a low-VOC waterproof sealer.
2. Use 5 cross pieces of 1/4-inch flat trim to create supports for the frame’s bottom. The wire mesh will lie on them. Use 1 piece at each end and 3 equally spaced in the middle.
3. Use brass screen or galvanized wire mesh (1/2-inch rabbit fence, available at hardware stores, works well). Cut the mesh with wire snips to be about 1/2-inch smaller than the frame in both directions. Bend it into the frame.
4. Smooth the wire and, if necessary, secure it to the cross supports with construction staples. Add the stones.
