National Novel Writer’s Month Begins Today!

Once more writers from around the world begin their Nation Novel Writer’s Month (NaNoWriMo) novels.  The object of this month is to start a novel on the 1st and have it finished (50,000 words) by Nov 30th.

I’ve been doing NaNoWriMo for the last couple years and have always enjoyed it.  My daily goal is 1666 words, so if I can do that I’ll be golden for the desired word count on the 30th!

This year I’m trying something I haven’t done before, Science Fiction.  It’s about a tribe of people on a tidelocked planet orbiting a Red Dwarf star.  Tidelocked just means that it doesn’t rotate.  One side is always sunny, and one side is alway night.  (Just like our Moon).  So there only an ring of inhabitable space around the middle of the planet a “twilight zone” if you will (of course I won’t call it that though.) 😉  The people live in a constant sunset/rise world.  They are a nomadic tribe, following the migrations of the animals they hunt for food; but recently there has been a blight on the animals that cause the meat to be inedible (well you could eat it, but the meat is infected and kills the people who ingest it).  They are attacked by a tribe of forest people a large number of their tribe are killed, including the spiritual leader who has to pass the responsibility onto her young, inexperienced daughter.  There starts a quest to find rediscover the ancient birthplace of their tribe.  *That’s the preliminary idea anyway.  It’s bound to change since today is only the first day of NaNoWriMo.
